What it evidence-based approach?

Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy, or CBT, Motivational Interviewing and other techniques that have been well researched over time proving they are helpful to most people are often referred to as an "evidence-based" interventions. For instance, CBT is the psychotherapeutic treatment of choice for anxiety, mood and behavior problems. While history gathering is helpful and important, for the most part the treatment is present-focused. This means that the psychotherapist will focus on the symptoms or problems that are affecting you negatively, and solutions will be introduced to help you lead towards more fulfilling life. You will be asked to practice skills or techniques outside of the therapy session to support their treatment. Various evidence-based techniques are utilized when appropriate, based upon your symptoms, level of development, and preferences.

The First Visit

More time is allocated for the first visit since during this time psychotherapist gathers a lot of important information about the reason for engaging in psychotherapy. Use of self-assessing questionnaires is a standard practice along with a clinical interview to collect more details about you or your loved one’s symptoms. This information will help narrow diagnostic process and it will help create an Individualized Treatment Plan (ITP). The same plan will be prepared and collaboratively finalized at your subsequent session. During the first visit the clinician wants to allow adequate amount of time for the people served to ask any questions they may have. The quality of the relationship between the client and the therapist is an imperative factor in a successful treatment.

Psychotherapy or counseling is not an easy process. Our clinician holds self to the highest ethical standards to make certain the best possible service to all clients is provided. The goal is to have clients feel comfortable. As the treatment progresses clinician starts to appropriately challenge the client so that a positive change can be accomplished in the shortest amount of time possible. The treatment length depends on many factors and it cannot be predicted. As one of great minds in counseling psychology stated “The therapist job is not to have a job!” We accept that philosophy.

Lateness, Cancellations & No-Shows:

Scheduling of an appointment involves the reservation of time allocated specifically for you. For that reason, a minimum of 24-hour notice is required for re-scheduling or canceling your appointment. The normal psychotherapeutic session fee will be charged for sessions missed without such notification. Understandably, occasional exceptions occur if it is agreed that a late cancellation was unavoidable. If you are running late for your appointment, please contact us as soon as possible to let us know you will be late. If you arrive late for your psychotherapy appointment, please understand that your session will need to end on already predetermined time, as other clients may be waiting for their appointment. If you cancel or no-show for 3 scheduled psychotherapy sessions within 3-month period, we will likely make a decision to refer you to another professional that may better match to your needs.
